Purunulu National Park

Passing through and perhaps staying overnight at El Questro, an absolutely unavoidable highlight of this dramatic journey is visiting the Purnululu National Park. This is where you’ll find the other-worldly Bungle Bungle Ranges which only came to international attention in 1983 when a film crew discovered the huge mountain range – obviously the traditional landowners and locals knew about these fairly ancient rock formations prior to that. The stripey bee-hive like rocks are well worth a visit as you wander in between them feeling dwarfed by their size, it’s certainly somewhere to give Uluru a run for its money.

Kimberley Tours to the Bungle Bungles

As you near the Northern Territory Lake Argyle makes for a welcome stop for a dip and interestingly it’s Australia’s second largest man-made freshwater reservoir! This is your last real Western Australia highlight before crossing state lines into the Northern Territory where Nitmiluk National Park awaits.

This stunning park is home to the Nitmiluk Gorge where you’ll have one last taste of rugged wilderness before reaching Darwin and planning your next adventure in the Northern Territory.
