What’s your name and what do you do?
My name is Kirsty Drummond, and I’m the Marketing and Accounts Manager at Wine for Dudes wine tours in Margaret River. I also like to throw my tour guiding and admin hat on from time-to-time

Margaret River, Western Australia
Where are you originally from?
Originally from New Zealand, I crossed the ditch 12 years ago. I love NZ, but Margaret River is home for me!
What’s your favorite thing about what you do?
Interacting with people in a fun industry. Wine has so many different corks… there’s the fun and quirky, right through to the sophisticated and pretentious. Each is exciting in its own way! The tourism side is all about people enjoying our beautiful region, and living life to the fullest. It’s very inspirational, and I love seeing people get their froth on when they’re out on tour with us, or just out exploring Margaret River!
Why do you love the Margaret River region?
For me Margaret River is one of the most incredible places on the planet! The natural environment is nothing short of majestic! There’s epic surf, crystal clear water, dreamy beaches, an abundance of outdoor activities (diving, hiking, mountain biking, caves etc), towering Karri forests (we call Boranup Forest “The Enchanted Forest”), talented local artists and musicians, and countless rugged 4WD tracks to amazing secluded places. We also have wine region which produces an abundance of world-class and highly awarded wines at our fingertips; with over 100 cellar doors to explore! The Margaret River social scene is definitely one to be enjoyed also, with plenty of top restaurants and cafes, and a fast-growing micro-brewery industry punching out some awesome craft beers!
Where’s your favorite place to hangout out at the weekend or after work?
Ahh that’s a hard one! …we have so many awesome places in Margaret River! I’m going to go with, ‘Morries’, which is a very stylish venue with fabulous cocktails and tapas, and impeccable service – definitely right up there with my favs! ‘Yonder’ is new on the scene, and is this grungy little social garage bar, that’s just super cool!
Where’s the best place to get a breakfast? And what do you order?
Margaret River Bakery (aka ‘the bottom bakery’), it’s a quirky little venue with lots of vintage décor and food to cater for every dietary requirement under the sun – it’s a hive of activity, and a real local hangout! I love their Turkish breads, with so many amazing fillings! I’m not a vegetarian, but their vego one is insane! Oh, and the coffee’s good! Interview with Wine For Dudes.
What’s pub should we visit?
The Settlers Tavern is our main pub in town, and you’ll always run into someone you know there! They have some pretty epic bands come through which is awesome; It’s quite big venue, so depending on the vibe you’re after there’s a hangout zone for everyone! And they’ve actually got one of the best wine lists in town!
What’s your favorite local wine and meal?
Man, these questions are hard! Is it possible to have just one favourite? I’m going to say the Ossobuco from La Scarpetta Trattoria – it’s this gorgeous little Italian restaurant at the bottom of town. It’s run by the most gorgeous couple, and has a beautiful ambience inside the restored heritage-listed building. The service is like you’re part of their big extended Italian familia! It’s so lovely. I work with Margaret River wines, and they have some top drops on their list, but they also have a sensational Italian wine list which they know so well, and usually we have a chat about what will work with our dishes, and what we enjoy and they’ll find the perfect bottle for your price point!
Why should we come to the (YOUR AREA)?
Margaret River is this remote little town in the South West corner of Australia; but it produces a massive impact to visitor experiences! We have so many talented people in our little region who are so interesting, and genuinely froth on the excitement people get when they discover what an amazing place this is, so you’re always made to feel welcome! Regardless of what you’re into there’s something for everyone… and not just something ‘okay’, there’s something extraordinary for everyone!
