What is Skilled migration to Western Australia

Skilled migration to Western Australia: The Government of Western Australia nominates eligible migrants for the Skilled Nominated and Regional (Provisional) Skilled Nominated visa categories.

WA Migration Services process nominations on behalf of the State Government. If nominated by WA Migration Services, you are given an automatic invitation to apply for the intended visa from the Department of Home Affairs.

State Nominated Skilled visas

To apply for a skilled nominated visa you must be nominated by a state or territory such as the Government of Western Australia. To be eligible for Western Australian nomination you must meet both the Department of Home Affairs criteria for the nominated visa and the Western Australian State criteria.

Upon nomination or approval, you must:

Register your arrival with the Settlement Services team;

Bring sufficient funds (for at least three months) into the State to cover settlement costs;

Live and work in Western Australia for two years upon arrival: and

Complete a settlement survey every six months for this two year period.

 ​Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190)

This permanent visa allows you to live and work in all areas of Western Australia.

Requirements for a subclass 190 Visa

The Department of Home Affairs criteria for a subclass 190 visa states that you must score at least 65 on your points test.

Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 489)

This is a four year provisional visa for skilled workers who are unable to meet the criteria for a skilled nominated visa (subclass 190). This visa allows you to live in regional Western Australia, outside of Perth.

On this visa you may be eligible for permanent residency after you have lived in a specified regional area for at least two years and worked full time for at least one year.

Applicants can be nominated through the general scheme or the graduate scheme.
